Out of the gene pool


I found this today out in the open under a tree. Is it an Eastern Bluebird egg? I know robin eggs are darker blue. In any case, it is all over for whatever is inside; it won't be in next year's mate selection games.

Hmmm...I wonder what Bluebird egg omelet tastes like?

Starling eggs are a very pale blue--and starlings are known to just drop eggs if for some reason the nest isn't ready, or whatever. That's why you might find one far from a nest just lying on the ground this way. It's part of their agressive breeding strategy--nest early and often. Seems wasteful though.
